SCWD

What is SCWD?
SCWD is a water switching or current generating device. SCWD switches or alternates water in two or more directions, depending on set up. It is an excellent water current generator for both salt water and fresh water environments, whether tank or pond. SCWD also has garden applications. It may be installed in statuary to create alternating or switching water flow from one spout or outlet to another or create decorative displays in garden ponds. The patent-pending device, which requires no electricity, directs water between two outlet ports at varying intervals. The higher the volume of water flowing through the SCWD, the faster the switching response.

Why do you need a SCWD?
There is a growing need for affordable wave makers to improve aquarium and pond ecosystems and protect expensive coral, fish and other water life and exotic investments. Most wave makers currently require electricity and are expensive. Until now attempts at inexpensive mechanical options have not been optimally designed or manufactured. Small, compact, inexpensive, and manufactured in the USA, SCWD does not use electricity, generate heat, or clutter your aquarium, pond, or garden environments. Get the clutter out of your aquarium install SCWD on the outside of your tank.

SCWD was subjected to over 53,000 hours of field testing and is regarded by industry experts as the most energy efficient wave-making product on the market. It replicates nature by generating alternating currents within a tank or pond. These currents stimulate coral, fish, and plant growth and keep other aquatic life healthy because of the tank or pond’s increased water currents and oxygenation.

Why should I put a SCWD in my Tank?
The SCWD is a revolutionary device. It is a mechanical wave maker, requiring no additional energy, made with demanding customers in mind. This innovative wave maker will stimulate coral growth, enhance fish health, and increases oxygenation in the water. The SCWD does this by creating similar movements as found in the ocean.

How long will the SCWD last running all day and night?
The SCWD has been manufactured to the highest degree of quality and has been field tested with over 53,000 hrs of trouble free operation.

How does the SCWD work?
The SCWD takes water from your existing pump or filter and alternately switches water between the two outlet ports at varying intervals.

How will the SCWD help my aquarium?
The SCWD creates movements similar to those found in the ocean. These movements stimulate coral growth, enhance fish health, and increases oxygenation in the water.

How will the SCWD save energy?
The SCWD is a mechanical wave maker requiring no additional energy. Just hook it up to your existing aquarium set-up and watch it bring your tank to life.

How well does the SCWD hold up to hard water and heavy concentrations of calcium?
As mentioned SCWD has been field-tested for over 53000 hours of continuous use in a sustained reef environment where water conditions were at or above calcium levels of 400ppm. In addition, SCWD has been subjected to qualification testing, which included use of hard water and elevated calcium levels (1000ppm) that were sustained for six weeks. After one month the power head running the SCWD stopped working, and required cleaning. Two weeks later the same power head failed again, but SCWD continued to operate without incident.

What is the switching frequency/duration between the two outlet ports?
The SCWD’s switching response is dependant on the amount of water volume running through the device. The more water, the faster the switching response.

Can SCWD be used inside the aquarium?
Absolutely. The SCWD can be mounted either internally or externally, depending on the desired results. The unit housing is completely sealed less the inlet and two outlets, so it may be hung outside the aquarium. The product materials are completely safe in both fresh and salt-water environments making it safe for installing inside the tank.

Will SCWD operate mounted upside down?
Yes. SCWD can run on any axis with no drop in performance.

How does small particulate and debris affect the SCWD?
Although not overly sensitive to the normal particulate and debris found in reef tank environments, it is strongly recommended that the water flowing through the SCWD is pre-filtered.

When I use my SCWD, I notice that the outlets don’t completely restrict the flow of water
when in the closed position. Is there something wrong with my SCWD?

No. The SCWD was designed and manufactured to allow a certain amount of water to pass even when the outlet is in the closed position. Even with good filtration, there is always a chance that small sand granules or debris may find its way to the SCWD. This minimal clearance was designed into the product to allow for small particulate to pass through without impeding operation and reliability.

Can I use more than one SCWD for my tank?
Absolutely.

What are the inlet and outlet inside diameters?
The first model SCWD’s ID for the inlets and outlets is one half inch.

What are the minimum and maximum pump ratings that can be used with the SCWD?
The SCWD can be run off a pump or power head at as low as 50 gallons per hour, and can be used with pump applications up to 1400 gallons and hour. Keep in mind that at fifty gallons an hour the switching response is very slow, and at 1400 gallons an hour the switching response is quite rapid.

Does SCWD come in larger sizes?
Although larger SCWD designs have been generated and plans are to release larger units in the future, only one size is available at this time.

What is the pressure rating for the SCWD?
The SCWD is guaranteed to withstand water pressures up to 5 PSI.

What are the approximate dimensions of the SCWD?
The dimensions of the SCWD are approximately 4.5" x 5".

Will the SCWD fit in an internal overflow box?
Whether it will fit will depend on the size of your overflow and the configuration of your outlet hoses.
